How to Cancel An Ancestry.com Membership

This wikiHow teaches you how to cancel your paid subscription or trial membership to Ancestry.com. If you subscribed to Ancestry.com on your computer, you can cancel in the Account Settings section of the website. If you subscribed on an iPhone, iPad, or Android, you'll need to use your phone or tablet to cancel your subscription.

Method 1 of 3:
Using a Computer

Sign in to your account at https://www.ancestry.com. If you're not already signed in, click SIGN IN at the top-right corner of the page to do so now.

Click your name at the top-right corner of the page. A menu will expand.

Click Your Account on the menu. This opens your account settings page, where you'll find your membership information.

Click Cancel membership. Look for the link at the bottom-right corner of the Membership section. Depending on your membership type, you may now see a pop-up window asking if you "Need a break?" If so, select Cancel Membership and click Continue here.

Select a cancellation reason. Click your reason for cancelling, or select "Other" if your reason isn't listed. You can type more information into the "Your comments" field, but that's optional.

Click Continue. It's the green button at the bottom of the page. Depending on your reason for cancellation, Ancestry.com may attempt to offer you a different membership option at a lower price. You can click the green Continue to cancel button at the top of the screen if you still want to cancel.

Review the "Before you go" page and click Cancel my membership. This screen summarizes what you'll have access to with your free account, as opposed to a paid account. Once you cancel your membership, you can continue using Ancestry.com until the final date of the billing cycle, or until the last day of your free trial period. Your card will not be billed again.

Using an iPhone or iPad

Open your iPhone's Settings

It's the gray gear icon on your home screen or in your app library.

Tap your name at the top of the screen. This opens your Apple ID info.

Tap Subscriptions. It's in the first set of options. A list of subscriptions connected to your Apple ID will appear.

Tap your Ancestry.com subscription. Information about your subscription will appear.

Tap the red Cancel Subscription link. It's at the bottom of the page. A confirmation message will appear.

Tap Confirm to confirm your cancellation. Once you cancel your membership, you can continue using Ancestry.com until the final date of the billing cycle, or until the last day of your free trial period. Your card will not be billed again.

Tap your Ancestry.com subscription. This displays the details of your subscription.

Tap Cancel subscription. A confirmation message will appear. If you are asked to select a reason for cancellation, tap a reason to do so, and then tap CONTINUE.

Tap CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION to confirm. Once you cancel your membership, you can continue using Ancestry.com until the final date of the billing cycle, or until the last day of your free trial period. Your card will not be billed again.
